Getting Involved
Help us Help Horses
in Need
Collecting, Selling, and Fundraising to Support Horses in Need
The main activity of our association is to collect donated tack and horsey paraphernalia to sell in aid of horses in need. Sadly there are too many such horses worldwide.
We also collect small, lightweight items to sell at online auctions for the cause.
Throughout the year we organise a few fundraising events too, mostly tack room sales / car boot sales / raffles / baking etc.
Helping Horse Rescues We Trust
Our goal is to help individual horse rescue charities / associations / projects in Europe, all of which, we have either visited in person, or have a very good communication with. We are committed to small, monthly donations to a handful of these, then when the coffers allow we will donate more and / or to other equine rescues.
Featured Horses

Maya
LIFE has known Maya for several years and every spring we see her in the same poor condition , underweight and overworked. Only when we supplement her inadequate diet with extra hay bales has she ever come close to decent condition.

Bella
This sweet mare, Bella, suffered horrific trauma, such that 6 months after her rescue, she still cannot be haltered. Through patience, her trust in humans is growing daily, tiny steps, but she now accepts being stroked at liberty.

Sassy
Strangles, a gut infection and repeated bouts of colic plus being harnessed far too young all tried to kill Sassy but following rescue she slowly recovered and is now living up to her name.
What we do
Our Services

Rescuing horses
Our association helps horses in need. We rescue, care for, and protect them, giving them a safe and loving environment.

Finding Horses a Home
We help find them loving homes where they can feel happy and secure, or kind sponsors who support their care and medical needs.

Cover Veterinary Costs
We raise funds to pay for vital veterinary care, which is often expensive for horses rescued in poor condition.

A grateful testimonial from
Lucy Irvine
“ Hi Carol, I just wanted to briefly list what that fantastic side saddle sale you made has achieved for LIFE. We started by clearing an Outstanding Winter Hay bill for our mini herd of rescues. Every horse owner knows what a relief it is to have winter hay in. 10 bales summer priced Lucerne delivered by horse power for those among our rescued equines that will need it in winter and happy hay munchers Dazzler and Pegas. Then there was the kind final act of care to help dear old Borka our Shetland rescue pass peacefully, last rites with a hired digger included. After this came equine dentistry for recently arrived rescued donkey Margareta who’s now eating with far more gusto than previously. Then last evening we were able to get a Roma owned mare in need re-shod as her very worn old shoes were causing pain and swelling of her lower legs as she worked on hot and hard surfaces. In addition to those 4 significant achievements for equines we’ve been able to top up supplies for the recent slew of abandoned kittens left with us. A small kitty received treatment for a disease affecting her eyes and we bought hygiene products for crated cats. We bought a top up of dog & cat kibble and some Outreach snacks for dogs needing care. Thanks to all concerned! “

Sassy – March 2025 VS October 2025
Helping Hands for Horses made it possible for LIFE- Lucy Irvine Foundation Europe – to rescue and treat Sassy, a filly that would otherwise have died and then move her on to our sister Foundation, Stanpede, where she’s thriving.
HHH has also contributed significantly to our Outreach work in Roma areas where conditions for equines are dire and cruelty through ignorance common. We are extremely grateful for the help given which increases LIFE ‘s ability to make visible changes for the better to the lives of hardworking and often mistreated horses.
What Drives Us
Our Mission
Together, we can give horses a second chance.
Support our mission—every donation, no matter how small, truly helps.
We support in particular our local association ‘Equi Dolce’ and further afield the ‘Lucy Irvine Foundation Europe’
Because every horse deserves a life of dignity
Small gift, big impact
By joining one or both of our Teaming groups for just €1 per month, you can make a real difference. Reaching our goal of 100 Teamers per charity will provide €100 each month, per rescue, helping cover essential costs such as hay, feed, and general care.
At a time when rescue resources are at an all time low, we would be extremely grateful for your support. No amount is too small.
- Funds go directly to the charity
- €1 debited at the beginning of the month
- There is no commission
- Connection is safe & secure
- Data is stored in encrypted form

Carol and her family helped us rescue a mare that had been abandoned in her field. They then adopted her, and since then she has been living happily and has regained weight. Carol regularly makes donations and organizes fundraisers to support our mission of rescuing horses.
